Because among the list of 1000 women from 150 countries who are likely recipients of the Nobel Peace prize in their lifetime, her name features. Because but for this Magsaysay Award winner, the Right to Information Act, and even the National Rural Emplyment Guarantee Scheme, would not have seen light of day. Because for her, the RTI was the second Independence for India, that gave Indians the right to challenge the government and its officials. The fact that most of us have never heard of Aruna Roy is because she wants it that way. A former IAS officer, living in a village in Rajasthan, she is always worried that her life isn't simple enough.
