Rangarajan Committee, which was set up by PM Manmohan Singh in August last year, said in its report the scheme would provide training to 50,000 to 1,00,000 youth in three to five years.

NEW DELHI: With the Centre roping in big private companies to join its job initiative for Jammu and Kashmir, nearly 1,000 educated youth from the state will be hired in the next two months through the "placement-linked and market-driven skill training" programme.

The companies, which have already shown interest in the initiative, include Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Crompton Greaves, Bajaj Auto, Tata Motors, Godrej & Boyce and Apollo Hospitals.

Acting swiftly on recommendation of the Rangarajan Committee on the jobs plan for J&K, which submitted its report to state chief minister Omar Abdullah on March 3, Union home secretary G K Pillai had a detailed meeting on the issue on Tuesday when the ministry decided to approach all those private companies that have shown interest in the scheme that would benefit the educated unemployed youth.

"To begin with, nearly 1,000 youth will be hired in the next two months. The idea is to act on the panel's recommendation as early as possible. More youth will be hired in phased manner to achieve the target of a minimum of 15,000 jobs till March 2012," said a senior home ministry official.

The committee, which was set up by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in August last year, said in its report the scheme would provide placement-linked and market-driven skill training to 50,000 to 1,00,000 youth in three to five years. "Under the plan, selected youth will be hired, trained as per their basic education and absorbed in the companies," explained the official.

Under the special industry initiative in J&K, different private companies across the sectors will also partner with educational institutions and run special training programmes to enhance employability of 8,000 youth per annum in the state over a period of five years.

"This would mean 40,000 youth in J&K are employable in various sectors across India in five years," said the officer. Kashmir University and Islamic University for Science & Technology are to participate.
