AP sarpanches to conduct field study in Kochi

A team of 30 sarpanches from Hyderabad are arriving in Kochi on February 2, 2011, to visit various gram panchayats and schools. The three-day visit is being organised by the Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR). During the course of this event, the sarpanches will observe practices followed by the various gram panchayats and schools in the state, with special focus on child welfare and the Right to Compulsory Education. An introductory session will be taken by CPPR chairman D Dhanuraj at the organisation’s Elamkulam office on February 2, at 4.30 pm. The event will be inaugurated by MLA Dominic Presentation. Special sessions have been organised for the sarpanches at Udamperoor and Poothrikka Gram Panchayats. The participants will also interact with the Kochi Mayor and Deputy Mayor, officials from the State Education Department, as well as school students.

This field study is a part of NGO M V Foundation’s work on the elimination of child labour through universalisation of education. The Foundation mobilises rural and urban communities for protection of child rights.
