No regrets, what would you have done, asks honour killing accused

New Delhi: “What would you do if someone enters your house at 12.30 in the night to meet your daughter?” an unrepentant Om Prakash asked mediapersons a day after he was arrested on charges of murdering his niece and her boyfriend in Swaroop Nagar. “I have no regrets for what I have done,” he said, while being taken to court along with the girl’s father, Suraj.

"Everything was sorted out between us and the boy and he had agreed he will not meet the girl again. But he came and that too in the night," said Om Prakash. Nineteen-year-olds Asha and Yogesh Kumar were allegedly killed by the girl's family members in a suspected case of honour killing early on Monday morning.

Meanwhile, a Delhi court sent the two accused in police custody till June 17. Metropolitan Magistrate Shalini Gupta remanded them in police custody so that they could be interrogated to find out the real motive behind the murders. The police also want to investigate whether other family members were involved in the crime.

Meanwhile, Yogesh's sister, who had gone to collect his body, claimed it was the girl's mother who had called her brother to Swaroop Nagar. "It was a preplanned murder and all of them should be arrested," she said. Yogesh's parents had died of tuberculosis some time back.

Asha's body was claimed by some distant relatives.
